Drugs can be delivered easily via microneedles that are slightly longer than the scleral and conjunctival thickness at pars plana. Suprachoroidal delivery of corticosteroids allows higher steroid concentration in the posterior segment tissues with minimal drug concentration in the anterior segment, which decreases the risk of other adverse ocular events like steroid-induced elevation of intraocular pressure and cataract progression. Several clinical trials have evaluated the safety and efficacy of suprachoroidal injection of triamcinolone acetonide in various ocular conditions.
