The visual assessment method is commonly applied in tree inspection, but it has limitations. Investigations using appropriate nondestructive instruments can well complement visual tree inspection. This paper is a short overview that describes non-destructive techniques for evaluating the load-bearing capacity of individual trees’ root systems. The techniques used are acoustic root detection and the pulling test.
