The current state of use of finite–element methods in industry
A short overview of the basic ideas of the finite–element method is given with a historical background. The different fields in which this method is used are briefly summarised. Worked examples show some applications of modern software products in the fields of structural mechanics and heat transfer. Problems in solving these examples are addressed.
