Thismayleadtoalateandinefficientresumptionofcontrolincaseofhandoverofthedrivingtaskto thedriver.Theauthorsevaluatedtheeffectivenessofavibrotactileseatdisplayingspatialinformation regardingvehiclesapproachingfrombehindtoenhancethedriverpreparednesstothehandoverof control.Asimulatorexperiment,involving26participants,showedthatwhendriverswererequired toregaincontrolofthevehicle,havingavibrotactileseatimprovedspeedandefficiencyofreactions inscenariosrequiringlanechangingimmediatelyfollowingahandover.Inaddition,eye-tracking analysisshowedthattheparticipantshadmoresystematicscanpatternsofthemirrorsinthefirsttwo secondsfollowingthetransitionofcontrolrequest.Interestingly,thiseffectexistsin-spiteofthefinding thatduringautomateddrivingmode,havingavibrotactiledisplayledtofewerglancesattheroad.
