A total of 29771 tweets with reference to the city of Rostock and an average accuracy of 83 % could be located over a period of six weeks. The example of the AfD demonstration on 22.09.2018 shows, that individual events can be tracked in near real time. This can be a source of essential additional information in various areas from event management to disaster control. But it is also possible to derive information about social-cultural hotspots on a larger scale, which can be used, for example, for urban and environmental planning. Especially the textual meta information contained in the tweets is of great importance.
