Abstract The influence of thermal aging at room and elevated temperatures on submicron cholesterol particles prepared by the freeze‐drying technique has been investigated. It is shown that the rate of decrease in the specific surface area as a result of thermal aging is dependent upon the aging temperature and adheres closely to the relationship described by the Arrhenius equation. The theoretical aspects of a possible mechanism operative in the reduction of the specific surface area are discussed.
