The bridge is located in an area of very high seismic activity, exposed to strong and gusty north and south winds. The compact bedrock is located at a depth of up to 100 m below the seabed so very demanding foundation on up to 128 m long driven steel piles was required. The bridge is designed as a multi-span cable-stayed bridge with a semi-integral hybrid structure with five 285 m long central spans.
