Journal of West China Forestry Science, founded in 1972, is an academic journal published by Yunnan Forestry and Grassland Bureau and organized by Yunnan Academy of Forestry and Grassland Science. The journal is equipped with “Research Bulletin”, “Comprehensive Review”, “Academic Exchange Information of Eminent Scholars” and Southeast Asian Forestry and other special columns, and publishes several special issues in line with the needs of social development. The cover of each issue is printed with a hand-painted picture of rare plants. 《西部林业科学》创刊于1972年，由云南省林业和草原局主管、云南省林业和草原科学院主办，国内外公开发行的学术类刊物。期刊设有“研究简报”“综合评述”“知名学者学术交流信息”及东南亚林业等特色专栏，并紧扣社会发展需求出版多期专刊，每一期的封面均印有一幅珍稀植物的手绘画。根据“中国知网”对《西部林业科学》年发行与传播统计报告的统计数据显示，2017年影响因子为0.707，2018年影响因子为0.654，2019年影响因子为1.082，2020年影响因子为1.538，2021年影响因子为2.097，2022年影响因子为2.414，连续6年呈不断增长趋势。2005—2023年，每年均入选《中国科技核心期刊》；2011年、2017年、2020年和2023年四次入选北京大学图书馆《中文核心期刊要目总览》；2020年入选《中国农林核心期刊》（2020）A类；入选 RCCSE中国权威学术期刊（A-)；自2020年开始入选《科技期刊世界影响力指数（WJCI）报告》。目前，在全国省级林业科研单位所主办的科技期刊中排名第一。
