Science of Surveying and Mapping was founded in 1976, initially named as Dynamics of Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology, changed to its current name and became a bimonthly journal in 2000, and in 2014, it was transformed into a monthly journal with public circulation. Supervised by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China and organised by the China Academy of Surveying and Mapping Science, the journal has won a number of awards for excellent journals, and its volume of articles and circulation are among the highest in the domestic surveying and mapping journals. Science of Surveying and Mapping has been included in many important search institutions at home and abroad, ranked as ‘China Science and Technology Core Journals’ and ‘National Chinese Core Journals’, and ranked No.3 in the ranking of surveying and mapping journals in 2011. The aim of the journal is to publicise the academic and scientific theories of surveying and mapping, and to promote the development of surveying and mapping. The main columns of the journal include academician's articles, expert forums, etc., covering geodesy, remote sensing technology, map data processing, etc. The main readers are professionals and technicians in the surveying and mapping industry.
