A retrospective review was carried out of 531 operatively treated closed distal radial fractures over a 5-year period. Multiple logistic regression was performed with infection as the dependent variable, using a stepwise regression procedure to select variables to construct the final model. In total, 19 (3.6%) fractures were complicated by postoperative surgical site infection. Uncontrolled diabetes with HbA1c >7, the presence of external fixation or external Kirschner wires, and tobacco use were significant independent predictors of infection. Abstract
