Abstract
It was demonstrated that with a proper choice of excitation coefficients it is possible to realize shaped beam patterns with the use of resonant compound coupling slots. The design of a breadboard antenna employing such coupling elements is described. An antenna consisting of eight end-fed resonant radiating waveguides with 14 longitudinal broadwall slots each was designed at 5300 MHz. Antenna patterns were recorded at a farfield test range. The elevation and azimuth patterns obtained from the measurements are found to be in very good agreement with the corresponding theoretical results. The copolarized and cross-polarized measured elevation patterns at 5300 MHz are shown. The cross-polarized signal level is more than 40 dB below the beam peak.<>
