Abstract

Polarization, relaxation, breakdown mechanisms of liquid dielectrics have been the subject of considerable study and research for a long time and comprehensive reviews have been repeated in the past. But almost all these studies have been carried out under the influence of electric field only. Liquid dielectrics, as used in the field of electrical/electronics engineering, are not only subjected to electric field alone, quite often, they are under the influence of both electric and magnetic fields. Polarization, relaxation, pre-breakdown and breakdown phenomena of liquid dielectrics in the presence of both electric and cross magnetic fields (CMF) have been presented in this paper. Breakdown parameters from the ionic state to electronic state in the presence of cross magnetic fields have been also discussed. Some mathematical models have also been formulated and presented in this paper.
