Modelling and soft-start control of measurement and transport line

Abstract

The measurement and transport line is a part of all modern terminals. Adriatic Tank Terminal (ATT) is a liquid cargo terminal located in the Port of Ploče and it is fully automated. This paper describes the derivative line control in ATT. The measurement line is described and modelled in Simulink-Simspace. It is very important to establish an appropriate operation mode for the centrifugal pump that supplies the derivative to a tank truck through the measuring line. This implies avoiding rapid and abrupt pressure changes caused by either the sudden shut-off elements closing or the induction motor direct start as the centrifugal pump drive machine. Installing a soft-start pre-filter reduces the impact and prevents the pipe from bursting. The advantage of using a soft starter over a centrifugal pump direct start is shown.
