Abstract

In this essay, the author beckons the reader to explore the biblical Garden of Eden story beyond the literal level, in Hebrew called P'shat, into the levels of Remez the metaphor concealed within the surface reading, the allegorical Drash and into the fourth layer, Sod, the concealed mystery embedded in the tale. Mendel teaches that the biblical Eve represents the innate and necessary curiosity that we, women and men alike, need in our lives of choice and free-will, in order to experience the miracle of life, to discover who we are in our totality, why we are here and where we are going as we journey forward.
