Abstract
A fast response modulator was designed and developed for using in a broadband Microwave Power Module operating in C-X-Ku band with output power delivery of 100 W. The modulator incorporates a low latency logic and protection module implemented in a CPLD floating at the cathode potential. The compactness demanded by the MPM was tackled through innovative design using dual-sided 3-tier multi-layer PCBs accommodating SMD components and an integrated planar transformer. The fast response and agility to handle high PRF up to 150 kHz in repetitive mode and 3 MHz in burst mode makes this MPM a good candidate for radar and EW systems.
