Abstract
The preparation and training of power system dispatchers with the aid of a training simulator combining the problem-oriented teaching technique are described. The training simulator discussed belongs to a class of programmable simulators and contains a set of training procedures dealing with the most important emergency situation which is the characteristic conditions in bulk power systems. Using the same training procedures, it is possible to utilise a wide range of facilities for abandoning the current emergency practices. The scenarios for training procedures are built on the principles which form the basis of computer-assisted learning systems, consisting of a logical sequence of separate programs. The training is carried out in a dialogue mode with a computer.<>
