Abstract
Background: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out to describe the current situation of early dental caries among 3-year-old children attending some public preschools in Ha Nam province in 2020. Methods: The study was conducted on 567 3-year-old children at 4 preschools in Phu Ly city, Ha Nam province. Children were clinically examined and diagnosed the severity of dental caries. Results: Results showed that the rate of early dental caries was 74.8%. There were 23.9% of teeths having dental caries, in which 6.5% were D1 dental caries, 9.6% were D2 caries and 7.7% were D3 caries. The average Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (dmft) index was 5.3 ± 4.8. In the upper and lower jaws, tooth R51 and tooth R75 had the highest caries rate with 52.9% and 44.6%, respectively. Conclusions: The prevalence of early dental caries among 3-year-old children was high. More effective measures were needed to protect the children’s primary teeth.
