Abstract
This paper is focusing on the application of the sine pulse width modulation (SPWM) technique to control the induction motor in an electric motorcycle. In which, SPWM method is to generate the sinusoidal three-phase alternating current (AC) by comparing the amplitude of carrier wave and modulation wave. The generated three-phase AC voltage is then applied to the model of the induction motor (IM), especially the asynchronous three-phase motor. The simulations will be carried out to evaluate the crucial characteristic curves of an induction motor between grid voltage and sinusoidal three-phase AC voltage. The simulation results show that the frequency carrier directly affects the quality of modulation voltage output. In particular, the harmonics and the ripples of sinusoidal three-phase AC voltage, which are appeared as the results of the modulating process, will be decreased when increasing the frequency of the carrier wave. On the other hand, the acceleration of electric vehicles can be improved by boosting the battery pack voltage in a short time. In addition, the other characteristic curves including phase current in rotor and stator, the rotor angular speed, and motor torque are also analyzed detail.
