Abstract
A methodology for cellular network strategic planning in a service profitability analysis perspective is presented. After showing the approach and the general scheme, the network model for the evaluation of the equipment development is described in detail and some examples of network element models are given. The set of models developed in this work is bound to be extended in the future in order to take into account all new resources and new services. The assumptions made for some models derive from the fact that at present the mobile network evolution is characterised by a high subscribers growth that almost in its totality only generates speech traffic, while in the future the network may radically be modified if a strong impact of data services appears. Such a situation may require the revision of some of the assumptions made. Anyway, it should be possible that only parameters are tuned and the general approach and the model require no modification. Most formulas also are likely to keep their validity. The high value of the approach is the availability of rapid and global results on economical convenience taking into account the last of the fashion of technology and service in the cellular network environment.
