The operation of renewable energy systems in ON grid mode and OFF grid mode may result in different power quality related problems such as voltage variations, power frequency variations and harmonics which have severe impact during unfavorable conditions in the grid. Hybrid renewable energy system encounters several technical challenges which require a broad research in several areas like system configurations, energy management, battery charging/discharging management, power electronics topologies and control strategies. The objective of this paper is to report a review of a research carried and various conclusions which are presented in the literature on hybrid renewable energy system based on wind energy – solar PV system along with battery regarding the configuration of the system, energy management, battery charging/discharging management, various topologies of power electronics and different control strategies.
