Abstract
Minimizing power consumption is one of the most important problems facing in wireless sensor networks. Nowadays most sensor networks use layered MAC protocol, which only focuses on the single-layer optimality, but the overall performance of the network is not ideal. This paper proposes a cross-layer MAC protocol--CLSMAC protocol. By adding information from the physical and network layers, the CLSMAC protocol can achieve better energy performance. The simulation shows that compared with the SMAC protocol, the CLSMAC protocol has a significant improvement in energy consumption, and has a good delay and throughput performance at the same time.
