The target system in this paper is a cutting machine transport system. Abstract

Modern, technologically demanding and highly automated machines include a variety of control functions to enable efficient, safe, controllable and observable operation. Control functions are implemented on logic controller, which is a discrete event supervisory system for execution of parallel, synchronized and sequential control functions. To design a control logic of such a machine, appropriate specification and design methods have to be introduced. This paper introduces a matrix based modular logic controller design. The modular logic controller is specified and formalized using matrix representation of Petri Nets (PN). The matrix representation is supplemented with PN next-state function and discrete event controller equation which enables the simulation of the system and analysis of its performances before the target system is actually built.
