Abstract
The paper covers the problem of terms and term systems in the expression of structure and functions of the key concept definitions in the sublanguage of information security, highlighting an un-breakable bound of concepts with word-terms and non-linguistic sign means of any technical field, which represent a sublanguage as a certain semi-independent language term system. The authors investigate the characteristics, functions and typology of terms in the sublanguage of information security, analyze interpretations of ‘term’, its main features, ability to denote a certain scientific concept, which requires a conceptual and logical analysis of terms. First of all, it is pointed out that the definitional function of terms is essential. Of equal importance is revealing logical relationships in making typology of term units of the certain technical field and their functioning in the text. The paper describes terms typology and its classification approaches, such as morphological, language-specific, subject-matter in the technical field. Aside from that, functions and structure of terms-concepts definition text as functional and semantic type of speech are considered in detail: such charac-teristics as a stable strict logical deployment of thought, discovery of fundamental properties of the defined object, manifestation as an important feature of the term-concept. The paper reveals term definition text functions and its types, a function of a source text in technical translation being of utmost importance, when a glossary of terms, lexicons-thesauruses in which definition texts are presented as context component acquire special significance.
