Abstract

When designing an authoring system, the choice of graphics model has a strong impact on the type of environment produced. A poor choice of model can result in a system that is hard to understand and which is limited in power and extensibility. We propose containment as the one and only mechanism upon which an authoring system's graphics model should be built. The containment based model subsumes all other models and yields a system which is easy to use and fully extensible.
