Abstract
This paper illustrates the experiences of Qafqaz University's development team gained over the year of work for in-house developed University Management Information System (UMIS). Since UMIS design and development is complex and long process that involves many areas of computer engineering and science, main emphasis has been made on database design practice which is primary aspect of success of the project. The course registration (enrollment) processes, which are integral part of any University Management Information System (UMIS), have been examined. Correct structural design of database is vital factor towards successful IS implementation. This gets more vital when it comes to course enrollment. As many other modules depend on this design stage and any irregularity here will directly affect other dependent modules. In this paper only tables that are closely related to course registration process are discussed. These include tables to hold definition of courses, degree program structures, program elective groups, course sections, students' enrolled courses and course equivalency references.
