Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the random access channel (RACH) transmission in the 3rd generation mobile communication based on the specification developed within 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP/sup TM/). Because there are messages with different QoS requirements, they are assigned with different access service classes (ASC). We compare different resource allocation methods and investigate the influence of the number of RACH processing units in a base transceiver station (BTS) on the performance of the overall system.
