Abstract
A novel control strategy is developed for the operation of a series resonant converter (SRC) with a view to improving its dynamic performance. The converter uses bipolar transistor devices whose base drive logic is such that the device has properties dual to those of a thyristor. The control strategy for the converter is based on maintaining a constant conduction angle for the transistors in a closed-loop mode of operation. The authors give details of the theoretical characteristics of a DC-to-DC converter using the SRC under a constant-transistor-conduction mode of operation. Results obtained from an experimental converter confirm the validity of the theoretical results and show improved dynamic performance of the converter during transients.<>
