Abstract

Circulatory disorders in the brain stem due to temporal herniation are among the leading causes of death of patients with craniocerebral injuries. The dissection of the cerebellar tentorium following the removal of a space occupying formation aimed at decompressing the brain stem is a rather traumatizing procedure. A less traumatizing method of tentorial dissection was developed using a specially designed instrument. Fifteen operations were conducted in 14 patients.
