This paper illustrates the use of GA for the design of controller parameters of a separately excited DC motor drive. The design criterion is modified as an optimization problem and the general rules of GA are applied. In the proposed GA, a novel selection procedure is adopted by combining roulette wheel selection with elitism, resulting in faster convergence to the optimal solution.
