The Roles of IT to Help An Organization Facing the Future: Case Study of the Television of the Republic of Indonesia

Abstract

In this era, IT [are] very useful for running a big company. In addition, IT can also provide added value to companies that apply their IT roles appropriately. Many companies apply IT specially to survive in the broadcasting industry. One of them is Television of the Republic of Indonesia (TVRI) which is a Public Broadcasting Institution (LPP) which was founded in 1962. TVRI always provides innovations in order to give the public the best method to distribute the information for them. To reach that, TVRI must know what IT roles are appropriate in order to help them facing the future. This study uses a qualitative method by analysing the TVRI business and IT transformation at TVRI from the past until the present as the public broadcasting institution. The results of this study indicate the transition role of IT from the support quadrant to the factory and ending to a strategic quadrant to begin the future.
