Abstract
This paper provides a performance comparison between a detailed AC exciter model and the classical AC exciter model as recommended in Standard “IEEE 421.5 Recommended Practice for Excitation System Models for Power System Stability Studies”. The main motivation of this comparison is to determine the degree of accuracy and the limitations of the AC exciter model recommended in IEEE 421.5.
