Abstract

As of May 23, 2020, there were above 5.38 million cases of new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infection and around 350,000 death toll. The World Health Organization (WHO) publicized on March 12, 2020 that the COVID-19 caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has characteristics of a global pandemic. Currently, there are no vaccines or particular drugs to combat the virus. Although scientists around the world are working hard to develop a vaccine, due to the double-blind experiments that vaccines and specific drugs must go through, it is impossible to produce a vaccine in less than half a year after the outbreak. So, the most effective measure for SARS-CoV-2 is immediate detection, isolation of new sources of infection, and diagnosis and treatment of confirmed patients. But, in order to cope with the outbreak, it is significant to understand the nature and clinical characteristics of the virus in detail. The research progress on the structure and genome of new coronaviruses, epidemiology, disease diagnosis, treatment, and future scenarios were carried out.
