Abstract
The paper presents a clustering based algorithm for consumers' classification in representative consumption categories characterized by typical load profiles obtained using measurements performed by smart meters. The results obtained were extended to other consumers that don't have a smart metering system implemented. In the case study, a working database described by information provided by smart meters installed at 87 residential consumers from a rural distribution network from Romania was considered. A comparative study was realized using a testing database formed by 60 residential customers. The results obtained demonstrated that the proposed approach can be used with the success in the optimal operation and planning of distribution systems or in building specific tariff structures of the customers.
