Índice de consistencia cervical como predictor de maduración y reblandecimiento del cuello uterino durante la gestación

Abstract

: Objective: To evaluate the cervical consistency index and cervicometry as a predictor of cervical softening through ultrasound. Methods: This study was carried out with 24 patients cervical consistency index and cervicometry were measured in the first, second and third trimesters. Results: The cervical consistency index decreases 20.8% between week 13 and week 38 of pregnancy, with an inverse correlation between the cervical consistency index and the weeks of gestation (r = -0.756; p <0.05); The positive correlation between the number of pregnancies and cervical length was relevant (r = 0.448; p <0.05). Neither body mass index, the age of the pregnant woman, nor the abortions influenced the cervical consistency index values in this studied group. No statistically significant difference was found for cervical length throughout the weeks of gestation. Conclusions: Cervical consistency index is a good marker of the physiological cervical ripening process with an inverse correction with gestational age and with parity.
