By 42 days of age no substantial seizure activity of dye penetration into the brain tissue occurs in MSG-treated rats. Histological examination indicates that seizure activity is not correlated with characteristic periventricular-arcuate area lesions known to be induced in neonates by parenteral MSG administration. Monosodium L-glutamate (MSG), a commonly used food additive, induces convulsive disorders in rats.
