Abstract

As stewards of the campus we must look at the future as well as the present. What ETSED Brings to Campus • Adds value to the physical asset portfolio • Extends the lifecycles of the buildings • Clarity to system interactions • Documents system modifications • Minimizes risk and maximizes safety • Promotes materials that are environmentally friendly as well as sustainable ENGINEERING… INTEGRITY Engineering is required whenever a project alters or connects to building systems or architecture. Involving ETSED at the concept or work request stage ensures precise integration into the existing structure and will avoid unexpected problems, reduce delays, and provide the highest levels of quality. • Decreasing number of delays and change orders • Reducing conflicts during construction • Ensuring long-term building durability • Identifying building maintenance or operational issues • Utilizing materials, equipment, and systems with long service life All of these factors contribute to the efficacy of our structures. The objectives are to increase energy efficiency and lower maintenance costs over the lifecycle of the building while balancing project design with customer needs and budget. These goals can be reached by involving ETSED in the initial stages and throughout the project. The project path can be smoother and easier to navigate with ETSED identifying boundaries and showing the extent to which the project is integrated into the campus environment. Construction projects have a lasting impact on a building and its occupants. A small miscalculation could cause major structural and safety issues. Plans must be correct and reflect the impact of the project on the remainder of the building. Engineering confirms that the information is complete and accurate to ensure proper integration. Why ETSED? • Maintain building and system integrity on all projects • Maintain the safety of personnel and integrity of building systems • Identify and resolve potential issues and concerns early in a project • Provide a more holistic, comprehensive approach to each project
