Abstract
Reduction of the magnetic spacing has lead to the possibility of near contact recording, otherwise known as surfing recording, achieved by using a TFC slider with pole tip in contact with the lubricant layer. The characterization of the lubricant and overcoat contact through the use of the readback signal is proposed.
