Abstract

Studies from the University of Florida indicate that up to 5.7 TeraBytes of uncompressed image data must be stored per year if the radiology department was totally digital. During four years of experience in archiving all clinical CT and MR images, the archive design has been improved to provide reliable and consistent operation. While the acquisition performance has been adequate, initial design deficiencies have limited retrieval performance. An enhanced version of the image archive is currently under development which will substantially increase the capacity and performance for both acquisition and retrieval.
