Student Financial Problems: Two Years of the Pandemic

Abstract

Начиная с 2020 г. автор участвует в исследовании «Образование в условиях короновируса: большие данные как инструмент измерения реакции общества» в рамках проекта Министерства образования и науки РФ. Данное исследование на основе анализа сообщений в социальной сети ВКонтакте направлено на выявление ключевых проблем студенческого сообщества в рамках осуществления образовательного процесса высшими учебными заведениями. Выявляется субъективная оценка проблем организационного, образовательного, социального характера, основанная на текстовом анализе сообщений с построением облака ключевых слов и семантических графов, отображающих связи между ключевыми словами, а также на определении эмоциональной тональности сообщений. Анализ проводится с использованием платформы класса DSML PolyAnalist. В данной статье приводятся результаты исследования финансового положения студентов за два учебных года (2020‒2021 и 2021‒2022). В результате текстового анализа были выделены основные тематические категории, относящиеся к финансовым проблемам студентов. Сопоставление тональности высказываний показало, что выявленные проблемы актуальны весь промежуток исследования, но с течением времени оценка приобретает более нейтральный характер, фокус напряженности смещается на другие объекты. Но выявленные в первый год проблемы имеют продолжающийся характер, к ним добавляются новые, а решение их не всегда своевременно или зависит от учебного заведения. Since 2020, the author has been participating in the study “Education in the context of coronavirus: big data as a tool for measuring society’s response” as part of a project of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. Based on the analysis of messages in the social network VKontakte, this study is aimed at identifying the key problems of the student community in the framework of the educational process by higher educational institutions. A subjective assessment of problems of an organizational, educational, social nature is revealed, based on textual analysis of messages with the construction of a cloud of keywords and semantic graphs that display relationships between keywords, as well as on determining the emotional tone of messages. The analysis is carried out using the DSML PolyAnalist class platform. This article presents the results of a study of the financial situation of students for two academic years (2020-21 and 2021-22). As a result of the text analysis, main thematic categories related to the financial problems of students were identified. The comparison of the tonality of statements showed that the identified problems are relevant for the entire period of the study; however, over time, the assessment becomes more neutral, the focus of tension shifts to other objects. Yet the problems identified in the first year are ongoing, new ones are added to them, and their solution is not always timely or depends on the educational institution.
