Development of an eco‐tourism strategy for Texas

Abstract

This paper deals with the development of a nature tourism strategy for Texas. As opposed to many states and countries Texas is unique in terms of private land ownership. In fact 97 percent of land belongs to private sector owners leaving 3 percent to the public domain. Private ownership makes it very difficult to maneuver in developing a strategy. This paper gives the history and methodology that was used in developing a nature tourism strategy. The process involved a number of private and public interests and focused on the obstacles that make it difficult for tourism development.
