Abstract
Environmental monitoring refers to the use of sensor modules to monitor an exterior environment. It is possible to implement widespread environmental monitoring thanks to the availability of new wireless connection and low energy sensor modules. This paper describes a project using Internet of Things (IoT) technology combined with low energy modules to monitor an environment and display data on graphs to view information and the history of data in a given location. This project consists of the recording of environmental data (pollution, humidity, temperature…) and the display of said data on a mobile application or on a website. Particular emphasis is placed on the user interface and on the database design. The project described here was implemented at the University of Limerick, so this paper refers to the University of Limerick campus, but implementation would work in any place.
