Abstract

A full-wave analysis using the Wiener-Hopf procedure and the generalized scattering matrix technique, referred to as WH/GSMT, is presented. A canonical problem where the scattering of an obliquely incident plane wave by a perfect electric conducting half plane embedded in multilayer dielectric slabs is solved by way of the Wiener-Hopf formulation. The GSMT is used to build the transverse resonance relation in a self-consistent manner. Since all the scattering matrix elements are written in closed form, the method presented is very efficient in terms of both CPU time and storage space. Also, since no basis functions have to be assumed prior to the analysis, the results are quite reliable. Another important feature of this method is that it can provide good physical insight into the problems being considered because the result gives the complex amplitudes of individual parallel plate waveguide modes in each region. This method is especially suitable for transmission lines of intermediate width, with finite lateral ground planes or coupled strip line and slotline.<>
