Gary Bond on Mental Illness and Employment

Abstract

Chancellor’s Professor of Psychology at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, where he has been for 17 years, Gary Bond has spent much of his career investigating ‘what works and what doesn’t’ in the rehabilitation of persons with severe mental illness. His contribution to the field of psychiatric rehabilitation, in his research and writings, is immeasurable. Not long after receiving his Ph.D. in Psychology from The University of Chicago, Bond took a position as director of research at Thresholds, a large psycho-social rehabilitation agency in the Chicago area. After witnessing the success of Thresholds vocational programming, Bond became interested in the field, and in how to measure program implementation. Gary Bond
