Futebol arte, o verdadeiro futebol brasileiro

Abstract

This paper analyses, through a group of formulas (soccer-as-art, especially), the circulation of discourses about a possible Brazilian identity. From a methodological point of view, it aims to show the effectiveness of organizing a relevant corpus based on the path (parcours, Maingueneau 2008) of the selected formulas (Krieg-Planque 2010). The background of this study consists of historical and sociological texts on brasilidade (“Brazilian identity”) and essays such as Wisnik’s (2008), Antunes’ (2004) and Rodrigues’ (1958) as well as Pasolini’s ([1971] 1999), who contrasts soccer as prose with soccer as poetry and attributes the latter to Brazilian soccer.
