The effect of the shunt capacitor, series capacitor and load are investigated. It is observed that the performance of a single winding machine is poor with unsatisfactory voltage regulation but the performance considerably improves with the inclusion of a series capacitor. Abstract

The paper presents different modes of operation of single-phase self-excited induction generators, using a commercially available single-phase induction motor. A single-phase self-excited induction generator system incorporating a combination of shunt and series capacitors has been suggested. In this paper, the results of a detailed experimental investigation are presented to assess its suitability for practical applications. The effect of the shunt capacitor, series capacitor and load are investigated.
