Abstract
In recent years. high priority has been given to the installation of tile drains in old cultivated lands to stop the decline in yields attributable to water logging and increased salinity. Economic feasibility parameters have been used to evaluate the economic feasibility of project. Cropping budgets of wheat, rice, maize, cotton and sugar beet as main crops in Kafr EI-Sheikh Governorate has been used to calculate net returns per feddan. Results of study showed the positive impact of tile drainage on productivity. Economic returns for feddan have increased after establishment of tile drains. Internal rate of return of the project estimated to be 24.35%. Rate of capital turnover has been calculated by 4 years. Benefit-cost ratio estimated to be 1.18. This means that tile drainage systems is economically feasible. Also tile drainage systems have more economical effect comparing with surface drainage, as tile drains allows to save more agricultural land, simplify the use of machinery, improve irrigation and drainage rates, reduce maintenance costs per feddan, remove excessive soil salinity and having better sanitary conditions. The study gave some recommendations which could increase the benefits of tile drainage systems and raise the agricultural production.
