Abstract
Residual stresses are present in virtually every part as a result of manufacturing processes such as welding, casting, machining, injection molding, etc.. These stresses can have a strong influence on the resistance of parts to failure by fatigue or stress corrosion cracking or by loss of dimensional stability.
