{"title":"Parenting practices in inculcating the values of volunteering among the children of the Emirate of Sharjah","authors":"","doi":"10.36771/ijre.46.4.22-pp11-57","DOIUrl":null,"url":null,"abstract":"The current study aimed at investigating the practices of parental education in inculcating the values of volunteer work among the children of the Emirate of Sharjah. To achieve the aims of the study, a sample of 76 parents was selected from the Emirate of Sharjah during the second academic semester 2020/2021. The study data were collected through the qualitative research methodology using a semi-structured interview. An interview schedule was prepared, and its validity and reliability were verified. Based on the qualitative research procedures, the data were analyzed by the grounded theory approach. The findings of the study showed a set of effective parenting practices in inculcating the values of voluntary work among children. The effective practices were the belief in the importance of volunteering in the life of a Muslim, the view of voluntary work as a national value, guiding children to practice scientific thinking during volunteer work, the view of volunteer work as a societal culture, and relying on the practical activities to inculcate the values of volunteer work. In addition, the findings of the study revealed a number of factors affecting the role of parenting in inculcating voluntary work among children.
