Mesticagens e identidades negras : um olhar a partir da relacao indio - negro

Abstract

This purpose of this article is to discuss the mixture between indigenous and black populations in the Sertão da Ressaca and its surroundings, southwest of Bahia which nowadays is known as Vitória da Conquista. It is also discussed in this article the construction of identities of the descendants of this contact in present times. In the  rst part of the discussion, which refers to the relationship between indigenous and black populations, the existing literature on the history of the Sertão da Ressaca about the contact between these two groups is reviewed. Other documents are discussed, such as prince Maximiliano Wied-Neuwied ́s report. In order to develop the second aspect, that is, the construction of identities, I present the current stage of my own research by reporting the memories of an indigenous-black descendant.
