Abstract

The results of experimental investigations of the strain characteristics (longitudinal stretching mechanical strains) of optical fibers based on Brillouin backscattering spectrum analysis are presented in this work. The reflectogrames of Brillouin backscattering spectrum and strain dependences along optical fibers are shown. “Problem” sections with the increased strain have been detected. The Brillouin reflectometry method allows to carry out early diagnostics of fiber-optical communication lines and to eliminate problems in the optical fiber in the early stage before changes in fibers become irreversible and damage optical fiber.
